Adverse Impact - Psychometric Glossary
Indicates if there is a disproportionate level of rejection by one sub-group, compared to the remainder of individuals who are being assessed for selection. Adverse impact can be calculated using the Four-Fifths Rule, which states that adverse impact exists when a selection rate for a group is less than four-fifths (80%) of the selection rate for the group with the highest rate of selection. Adverse impact does not necessarily mean the tool being used is unfair, but it certainly warrants explanation.
