Abstract Reasoning - Psychometric Glossary
The ability to evaluate information and apply knowledge in order to solve generalised or symbol-based problems, rather than problems based on real-world situations. Also known as Inductive, Conceptual or Logical Reasoning, Abstract reasoning tests are designed to measure a person’s complex cognitive thinking abilities, using adaptability, flexibility, as well as generalised concepts. The test involves considering a series of diagrams or shapes and identifying the odd one out, or the next in the series. Alternatively, they can involve completing the 'missing piece' in an image comprised of symbols and abstract shapes.
